WPXI-TV Pittsburgh is looking for multimedia savvy students interested in photography, videography, writing, editing, and shooting. Please send your resume and cover letter to email@example.com and make the subject “Web dept. internship.
(Formerly Fox Sports Net)
At Root Sports Pittsburgh, the first skill interns learn is operating studio equipment. They are trained on our newsroom software system and how it connects to our tele-prompting equipment. We teach them how to operate our three remote-controlled studio cameras. They also learn how to correctly assemble our news set, which is more confusing than it sounds due to our production of four different studio shows both in Pittsburgh and St. Louis.
Interns also help out nightly by logging live sporting events. On any given night, we need to edit highlights of any number of games being played across the country. We do not have enough paid staff to watch and logg all of the games, so our interns watch them, log the action and work with a production assistant to turn a three-hour game into a 30-second highlight. Once the intern shows the skills necessary, they complete this process themselves and edit highlights for broadcast.
We also give our students the opportunity to shadow one of our news crews in the field. This is where they can start assembling some on-air footage of themselves in order to build a resume tape.
