Fan Media Digital Video Internship

This is a 4-month program from December through March Madness for school credit (non-paid). Fan Media will train, develop and collaborate with interns as mobile video journalists for social news coverage this basketball season. This is for journalism, broadcast and digital media students from the 135 schools that have a channel in our app and on our web site.

Interns (correspondents) will provide 30-second iPhone videos covering their college basketball team on a weekly basis, including: news reporting, commentary, criticism, analysis, fan interviews, moments, trending stories and public opinion. Fan Media Network will provide a correspondent kit with best practices for production quality and editorial direction.

Students will learn mobile video journalism as social news in the field, get on-camera, cover high-profile sports news, build their mobile demo reel, have fun and strive to get into the News Feeds and Trending Stories of Facebook and Twitter as social news coverage. Videos can be shared from the app and web site into the News Feeds of Facebook and Twitter as well as Fan Media’s social brand pages.

Interested students can apply by installing the app http://apple.co/1HhY2QQ or making a profile on the website http://fanmedianetwork.com/, and making one video 30-second or less video about your college basketball team. It can be a season preview video or any of the ideas listed above. We will contact you in the app or web site from our Newsroom to set you up from there.

Dunk360

Dunk360.com, a growing sports media site that is looking to expand its reach into collegiate athletics.  As part of this expansion, we are looking to build a network of college correspondents who can contribute content to our platform – not just for college sports, but also for professional sports and related fashion/entertainment subjects (i.e. sneaker culture).

This is a chance for future sportswriters and those who are simply interested in the sports culture to gain experience and have their work published on a site that already has more than a million views per month.  The application process is open to all, and the writing can be small fun blurbs, memes or longer writings.  This is an opportunity to gain experience as a writer, but the opportunity is far greater than just that.  We offer our interns the opportunity to produce podcasts, create video content, and to learn how to promote their work through search engine optimization and social media outreach. It will be up to you what you write, but we will of course have final approval. This batch of writers and or interns are for the fall semester, so while the internship is unpaid, there is an opportunity to receive school credit as long as the requirements fall within the parameters set by your school.  For interns, there will be a video interview and a writing sample submission before acceptance.

For those looking to get into the sports media, this is an opportunity to experience all aspects of sports coverage, gain exposure, and hopefully find their niche in the industry.  All with interest should feel free to apply, this position is not limited to journalism majors, but writing experience is a plus.  The workload, again, depends on how many of the site’s projects the individual is looking to work on, but at a minimum, we’re asking our interns to submit one or two pieces of content per week.

Anyone who is interested in the position, or has any questions, please feel free to send me an email at seanb@dunk360.com.

Our 200+ writers have powered millions of page views, and some have been featured on Yahoo Sports, Sports Illustrated and Fox Sports. Additionally, Chat Sports has been a launching pad for numerous writers’ careers. Our alumni have landed prestigious writing gigs for companies like ESPN, Fox Sports, USA Today, the NBA, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and the USTA.

As a writer for Chat Sports, some of the exciting opportunities you’ll have are:

Creating compelling, original content
We’re looking for writers who can do more than write game analysis. Chat Sports writers profile top recruits, coordinate draft coverage, interview star players, analyze trade rumors, and cover breaking news.

Spearheading investigative assignments
From time to time, we may ask you to report on a specific topic related to your team – it’s up to you to get the quotes and information that’ll make the story come together.

Maintaining site content
In addition to your articles, Chat Sports features the best of the best content on your team from around the web. Blogs, local news & national sources are curated to create the web’s most comprehensive home for sports news. As a writer, you’ll be asked to monitor the quality of the featured content for the team(s) you cover.

Product Influence
Here’s your chance to be an influencer in a growing startup. This is your product – If we can improve a feature or user process, let us know! We take care of the design and programming, and there’s no fussing with coding or color schemes for our writers.

Build a Following
We will soon be introducing a feature to allow writers to build a following of Chat Sports members. As you increase your followers, you’ll have the opportunity to influence a larger audience of sports fans.

Obtaining Media Credentials
Once you are a proven journalist, you’ll be given the opportunity to attend games as a member of the press (and eat some free food, too!).

Remember, we aren’t looking for average sports writers. We don’t want to put our readers to sleep with mind-numbing game summaries. At Chat Sports, our writers create entertaining, eye-popping articles filled with creativity, controversy and humor. If you wouldn’t share your work with your friends, it shouldn’t be published on Chat Sports.

All interested candidates should send an email to our Content Manager Roger Kristof. Attach a writing sample (or a link to one) that you think showcases your strengths as a writer, and tell him about yourself, your goals as a writer and your passion for the team of your choice!
