The University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health (Pitt Public Health) is hiring two student assistants for its marketing communications team.  Reporting to the communications editor and content manager, each marketing communications assistant will work 10-15 hours a week on campus during the spring term.  The primary role involved writing for Web and social media in both positions, though secondary skills in graphics/video are desirable.  These positions are available through the term with potential renewal over the summer and future academic terms.

Other responsibilities include the following:

  • Writing and editing short news blurbs about research and school happenings based on submissions and online media sources.  Posting these stories to Web site and/or social media.
  • Writing and/or editing short-form news stories based on original interviews, research, or event participation.  Posting these stories to Web site and/or social media.
  • Maintaining, updating, and creating new Web site content using a content management system.
  • Contributing to the writing and production of broadcast e-newsletters.
  • Contributing to ongoing social media efforts and, ideally, developing new social media initiatives.
  • Assisting the Office of the Dean, the Office of External Affairs, and the Office of Student Affairs with special projects as necessary.
  • Students from all academic backgrounds at both the undergraduate and graduate level are encouraged to apply.
  • Basic writing, editing, and reporting skills.
  • Basic photography and image editing skills.  An eye for graphics and ability to sketch/draw (designing white boards in public spaces) is highly desirable for one position.
  • Familiarity with HTML code and basic Web site updates through a content management system is desirable. (Our specific platform can be taught)
  • An understanding of social media including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. and ability to write, edit, schedule, and manage posts using a casual, upbeat tone.
  • An aptitude for and interest in learning new software/technology.
  • An ability to work independently in executing specific projects and team priorities.
  • An interest in communication, writing and/or public health, which will inspire your efforts to communicate public health items with the campus community, alumni, and others.

Orange Astronaut Creative Media Internship

Bike Pittsburgh Internship

Bike Pittsburgh is currently seeking a Women’s Events Marketing Intern to join our team in spring 2018. This intern will develop blog posts and social media content related to women’s events such as coffee meetups, happy hours, and group rides. Pitt Global Studies PR & Publications Internship

Publications/Public Relations Intern (for credit or tuition remission)

Pitt’s Global Studies Center (GSC) seeks an intern (graduate or undergraduate), for the fall semester (fall 2017), who will help with the various publicity, publications, and social/digital media produced by the Center. The intern will have the opportunity to create social media posts, write and edit public relations copy, and produce digital and hard-copy publicity materials for a variety of events, all with an international and educational focus. As the GSC intern, the student will also attend innovative events to gather content and interview people for articles, which will be featured in GSC publications.

The internship position will require excellent written and oral communication skills, with an emphasis on writing in a consistent voice and tone reflective of GSC’s mission, to better promote and bring awareness to our multi-faceted goals. Interns will also be required to have knowledge of creating online content for social media and websites, along with an understanding of how to write public relations copy for a variety of audiences and purposes and to design eye catching and innovative fliers. Ideally, the GSC intern will also have a working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and SEO (search engine optimization), though these skills are not required. The internship will require 10-15 hours per week and students can earn 3 credits if they take the corresponding internship course or they can receive tuition remission.
