Operations Manager Trainee: Pittsburgh Gymnastics Club

The Pittsburgh Gymnastics Club is currently seeking the perfect candidate to train in preparation for fulfilling the role of an Operations Manager. This position will start at 20 hours per week as a paid internship, graduate trainee or part time independent contractor. As the candidate is successful, more responsibility will be given and hours of work per week will grow. This role is set change to a 35-40 hour per week full time status by January 2018.

Position Type:  Paid internship, graduate trainee or part time independent contractor
Location: North Braddock, PA
Compensation: Competitive pay is negotiated at time of hire. Includes employer-matched IRA contributions and various bonuses. Health insurance is a possibility at full time employment.

Core Hours: Monday through Thursday, 4pm-9pm


  • Bachelors degree in a Communications field

  • Ability to obtain a USAG professional membership, plus pass all child clearances and background checks


Business Operations
Familiarizes him or herself with all kids and their family membership status
Monitors the flow of the gym, class starts and energy level
Monitors parent viewing area for any needs
Handles all non-emergency injuries (ice packs, Band-aids)
Acts as first point of contact for issues arising from classes
Fulfills registration tasks and customer follow-up
Follows all business procedures set forth by the Owner
Track and follow up on attendance of class athletes

Checks gym assigned email on a daily basis
Helps implement new programs on various media platforms
Works with closely with marketing staff
Build relationships with customers on behalf of the gym

Staff Administrative Support
Creates a monthly staff schedule for all gym activities and submits for approval
Schedules and manages all rotations
Watches all classes for proper implementation of current lesson plan
Facilitates ongoing training of staff

Our gym is located in a revitalized neighborhood, Braddock, PA. We offer competitive USAG gymnastics, Ninja Zone, USAW Olympic Weightlifting and general fitness training.  Our focus is on sports programming for children and the difference it can make in the lives of each family. A successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial attitude and appreciate an opportunity to watch your ideas flourish! This is a rapidly expanding gym and therefore, we would expect this person to have a desire to move up and expand with the gym.

Hope Grows Development & Volunteer Management Intern

Hope Grows is a Pittsburgh based nonprofit that provides an environment empowering caregivers to seek wellness of mind, body, and spirit through counseling, education, supportive services, and therapeutic respite opportunities. We work with our corporate healthcare partners in the area to provide quality support through unique coping and self-care programs.

The Development and Volunteer Management Intern should have some fundraising experience and an understanding of fundraising development with events. The intern will assist with the duties related to fundraising, event planning, marketing, and volunteer management and continue to work in accordance with the fundraising plan as needed. The intern will actively seek sponsors, in-kind donations for auctions, help with the organization of the fundraising packets for events, and work in conjunction with the social media plan and social media intern for events.

Position Information:

UPMC is currently accepting resumes for available spring externship positions within the Human Resources Departments at their Oakland, Shadyside, and Downtown locations. The HR Extern will work on a for-credit basis, from mid-January through mid-April 2015, in order to meet hours required for their degree. The schedule for this position is flexible, however 12-15 hours per week is preferred.

Required Qualifications:

Students must be currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. Preferred majors include human resources, labor relations, communication, psychology, health management, marketing, business or a related field. A cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 is strongly preferred, and preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated leadership ability through their studies, employment, or extracurricular activities.

Pittsburgh Assistance Center for Educators and Students (PACES) Summer Internship

Looking for a Summer internship and are interested in improving Pittsburgh students’ learning environments and experiences? The Pittsburgh Assistance Center for Educators and Students (PACES) is looking for organized and outgoing college interns who will be dedicated to help making a difference in the local school education.

The college interns should possess strong written and oral communication skills; be able to initiate contact and network with potential donors and education professionals; as well as work diligently and meet deadlines.

Duties of the interns may include reporting issues of concern and need for local schools; engaging with children by participating in tutoring, field trips, and extracurriculars; and serve as a collegiate liaison for PACES and recruit college-student volunteers.

As a PACES intern, there are a variety of benefits. Interns are able to work with the director to create their own schedules and internship objectives; have the opportunity to tailor projects to their specific career goals; and build networking skills by engaging with community figures, education professionals, non-profit specialists, and other college students.

Summer 2013 Media Communications Internship

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) is looking for Media Communications interns to help communicate the OIG’s mission through the several ways of media. The mission of the Department of Health and Human Services is to protect its programs such as Medicare, Medicaid from fraud, waste, and abuse.

The Media Communications team for the OIG have helped create Outlook 2013 videos, a Portfolio on Personal Care Services, a focus on safety at Head Start facilities, Most Wanted Fugitives lists, a podcast on child support enforcement, and media coverage of their activities.
The OIG Summer Internship can start as early as April 2013 and the schedule of the interns will depend of their times of availability, skills and interests. Those who are interested in the internship should be knowledgeable in current government affairs- especially regarding health care- as well as the media. It is preferred if the students interested have strong writing and verbal skills, who are able to collaborate with others, and are equally motivated and organized.
Most of the Media Communications intern’s responsibilities will include: research topics and write text for the Web, memos, press releases, and Web pages; participate in various events, presentations, and meetings as a representative of MC; help with OIG’s daily “Press Clips,” a compilation of news of interest to OIG employees in Washington and across the country, and alert the MC director about any articles of interest; update SharePoint documents on media contacts, speeches, and other topics; help develop online communication strategies; assist the MC team by organizing information, researching and brainstorming various topics; help the MC director with daily administrative tasks, such as organizing files and schedules; assist in gathering information to gauge the effectiveness of OIG’s Twitter outreach; develop presentations using PowerPoint or Prezi software.
This is an unpaid internship; however, those who are part of the MC team will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in communicating through writing as well as learning about policy, and researching topics to assist the speeches of managers.
