Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Intern – PPG

We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic and creative candidate for our 2016 Fall internship. As a member of PPG’s Corporate and Government Affairs team, you will work with our team in a fast-paced environment at the company’s global headquarters in the heart of Pittsburgh. You will have the opportunity to gain important experience in working with the team that oversees corporate reputation management activities and brand-building efforts, including internal and external communications, community affairs, advertising and marketing, and social media engagement.

The right candidate will be eager to expand their knowledge and skill set with hands-on experience working with an integrated group of professionals. This is a paid internship.


Under supervision of the Corporate and Government Affairs team, this position will assist in a wide range of activities including:

  • Preparing written materials (press releases, FAQ sheets, letters, memos, etc.)
  • Writing and organizing content for the company’s internal communications channels
  • Closely monitoring media coverage and compiling reports
  • Compiling media lists and distributing news releases
  • Assisting with social media campaigns
  • Assist in production of events
  • Helping with community engagement activities
  • Collaborating with other team members on various projects as needed
  • Administrative duties as necessary

  • Excellent writing, research, and communication skills. Knowledge of Associated Press style.

  • Familiarity with and understanding of best practices for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms
  • Comfortable talking on the phone with media, colleagues, community stakeholders, and vendors
  • Familiarity with media database tools a plus, but not required
  • Photoshop/design skills a plus, but not required
  • Strong writing, editing and proof-reading skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects on tight deadlines while maintaining top quality deliverables; ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment

Office of Frankie DiCarlantonio

Frankie DiCarlantonio a candidate for public office for a city-wide position in City of Steubenville, Ohio is looking for a student who would be able to work in a remote location for this internship and would work in forms of communications for the campaign including social media management, public position comments, media management, fundraising communication, and many other forms as well. About 75 percent of the job can be done at any time that is good for the candidate while the other 25 percent would have to be done during the business day. As long as the student has access to a computer, an internet connection, and a phone – he or she will be able to do the job.

The internship would be unpaid and would need 15 to 20 hours per week to complete.

Veterans Leadership Program

Title: Public Relations Intern

The Public Relations Intern will assist Veterans Leadership Program’s (VLP) communication efforts with the goal to attract and retain new clients, donors and volunteers by increasing our media and online presence. For the past 34 years, Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania has been the premier nonprofit organization that provides housing and employment services to local veterans living in the 18-county region. The Public Relations Intern will receive valuable work experience to add to his/her resume and portfolio.

New Hope Center Internships

New Hope Center (based in Paris, Texas) is looking for one or two very motivated Communication majors to run their social media accounts. New Hope is a 501(c) non-profit that helps people escape poverty and homelessness as a part of an integrated network of groups that help people learn job and life skills, volunteer in the community, and build a new life. New Hope is opening a thrift store in January of 2016 to help support the work of the center. The thrift store will need its own social media presence.

Applicants should be familiar with social media best practices, and either maintain or start accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and any other relevant sites. The social media accounts will be used to help build community, raise funds, and raise awareness of what we do for our community. Interns will work with the center’s Executive Director to craft and deliver polished messages.

This internship can be done from home! The hours are flexible, though we’re hoping for a minimum of 2-3 posts per week per platform.

Educating Teens, Inc.

Educating Teens, Inc. works with at-risk youth in the Pittsburgh area to teach them healthy life behaviors — especially those that will help them reduce their risk for HIV/AIDS. Educating Teens, Inc. is looking for a social media intern.

Duties include making weekly posts about events and symposia and monitoring the Twitter and Facebook accounts. This can all be done from home!
